Handy
Helpers
“Religion
that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after widows and orphans in their distress.”
James 1:27
This
ministry helps provide assistance with minor household repairs
and maintenance for seniors, those with chronic illness,
the disabled, single moms or dads, widows/widowers, or others
who are unable to meet these needs themselves. The HandyHelpers
Ministry provides services through volunteers who use their
time and skills at no charge. The only cost to the individual
needing the work is the cost of parts and supplies.
To
make a request please call 770-943-3008 extension 6030 or
if you wish to submit a request or volunteer online please
use the links below.
Objective:
To
help people in the church or community with odd jobs, maintenance,
etc. that cannot do the work themselves and/or are unable
to pay somebody to perform the work.

-
Individuals that have a need can contact the church secretary,
or one of the two HandyHelpers Ministry Coordinators.
The following information should be collected from the
requestor: Name, Address, Phone Number, Cell Number, E-Mail,
Description Of Work Requested, and whether this is an
emergency.
-
We will determine if we can accommodate the request. If
we can accommodate the request we work with the requestor
to determine in more detail what work needs to be done,
estimate materials if necessary, and determine a time
for a team to do the work. Emergency requests have priority
and we will try to get a team on the task within a few
hours or advise of the correct person to contact.
-
We will email all volunteers with the request. Volunteers
respond to the request indicating that they can perform
the work. Depending upon the size of the job more than
two individuals may be needed. This will be indicated
in the email. If this is an emergency request the email
will be marked as priority. We may call volunteers directly
depending upon the need.
-
The work team dispatches to the requestor’s location
to perform the work on the date and time agreed upon with
the requestor. Team members will be encouraged to look
for any other needed repairs such as Life/Safety Issues
(no smoke detectors) or Obvious “Money Out The Doors
Fixes” (running toilets, obvious weatherizing).
Team members will also be encouraged to witness where
the spirit moves, especially when we branch out into the
community.
- Upon
Completion team notifies one of the coordinators. The request
is closed recording the amount of money and time necessary
to complete the task.
Funding:
The
people requesting services should provide materials if possible.
If this is not possible we will try to work out payments
with the individual. If no funds are available then we will
evaluate on a case by case basis considering factors such
as necessity, expense, and complexity. If Possible we will
fund the materials out of the HandyHelpers Ministry Account
(See Below). In some circumstances we may refer the individual
to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.
Donations:
All
donations arising from services rendered or fund raisers
for the ministry will be placed into the HandyHelpers Ministry
Account and administered by the Church Financial Controller.
Safe
Environment:
In
an effort to provide a safe working environment for the
people requesting services as well as the volunteers we
will ensure that:

Volunteers:
In
addition to your contact information we also will want to
know if you have experience in:
-

We will

to do the work; ladders, hammers, screwdrivers, drills,
saws, etc. Also of interest will be any special skills or
special tools (i.e. Power Washer) you may possess. We will
also want to know if you have a pickup truck that you would
be willing to use to haul materials, refuse, etc.
