Jim Higgins

Jim was
born and raised in Homewood,
Illinois, one of the south suburbs of Chicago. His
early spiritual formation and call to ministry occurred at
St. Andrew’s
United Methodist Church.
Jim is
married to the former Pamela Hayes of Rockwell, N.C.
They have three children; Bo, seventeen years old, and fifteen
year-old twins, Chris and Carley.
Dr. Higgins
graduated from Illinois
Wesleyan University in 1983, was awarded the Master of
Divinity degree in 1986 from Candler
School of Theology at Emory
University, and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from
Columbia Theological Seminary
in Decatur, GA in 2000.
Rev. Higgins
has served the North Georgia
Conference of The United Methodist Church in a variety
of leadership positions including; Chairperson of the Spiritual
Formation Committee; Conference Spiritual Director for the
North Georgia Walk to Emmaus; and Chairperson of the Augusta
District Council on Ministries. He has also served on
the North Georgia Annual Conference Program Committee, the
Conference Committee on Nominations, and several District
Councils on Ministries. Dr. Higgins was the Host Pastor
for the 1994 North Georgia Annual Conference, and served as
the secretary, vice-president and president of the North Georgia
Conference Council on Ministries, as well as being the Clergy
President for the Griffin District. Currently, Dr. Higgins
serves on the board of the Wesleyan
Christian Advocate and The
North Georgia United Methodist Foundation. An Army
Reservist, Dr. Higgins holds the rank of Major and is the
Chaplain for the 2/135th General Support Aviation Battalion
as well as the 36th Combat Aviation Brigade.
An avid
runner and cyclist, Jim completed the 410-mile Bike
Ride Across Georgia, has completed seven marathons, and
is a seeded runner in the Peachtree
Road Race. Jim and Pam enjoy leading travel groups,
having visited Israel, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, England, Brussels,
France, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Mexico,
the Bahamas, and the British West Indies.
